If you like History at all, WWII history, or enjoyed Band of Brothers and/or Saving Private Ryan (and similar films) WATCH THIS SERIES
Brought to us on HBO by Stephen Spielberg and Tom Hanks. From HBO: "The Pacific tracks the intertwined real-life stories of three U.S. Marines - Robert Leckie, John Basilone, and Eugene Slege - across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theater during World War II." Each episode starts out with a little background info about where the episode takes place, including some stories from vets that were there. Then we get the action. OMG action. Two episodes in - taking place at Guadalcanal. Next one takes us to Australia while the US builds up its forces to start taking the Pacific back. The 2nd episode shows the battle that earned Basilone his Medal of Honor. John Basilone is the only enlisted Marine in WWII to receive the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. If anyone deserves the Bad Mother Fucker wallet it's this guy.http://www.bmfwallets.com/embroidered.jpg
HBO also has a website companion to the series that gives a few goodies like historical backgrounds to the episodes, battle maps, synopsis and the introductory blurbs. I'm not sure if the episodes are available via streaming over the net, I haven't looked into it too deeply. Hulu redirects to HBO, HBO isn't streaming it. So if you don't have HBO, I guess wait until the DVD set comes out. Based on what I've seen to date, it will be worth the wait.
