The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1111422/
Premise: John Travolta and some other guys with guns take a New York subway car hostage and demand money. Denzel Washington shows up.
My take: Do not bother with this remake. Watch the original "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)" instead.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072251/
Much better movie with Walter Matthau. Ever see Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" ? See the movie that inspired the names Mr Blue, Mr Brown, Mr <insert color here>. That's right. This movie. The original.
Bonus: Younger Jerry Stiller (George Costanza's dad) and Doris Roberts (Raymond's mom) make appearances.
I suppose my opinion is so harsh because I watched the Original film about a month before I watched the Remake film. The original had better progression of story, better resolution of issues, better acting, better thrills and drama. The remake just seemed bland, like they cut some of the best stuff out, added explosions, and cheated the ending. Maybe, for some viewers, the remake won't seem so bad when they don't have the original to compare it against. Sorry, but Travolta doesn't bring enough to a flick to make it great, and even Denzel's presence has trouble making itseembetter. I don't think Chris Walken and Morgan Freeman could've made it any better either.
I'm rather shocked this remake sucked in comparison. I mean, this is the same director responsible for the remake of "Man on Fire," plus "Enemy of the State" and "Top Gun". Crazy.
Then again, he's also responsible for the abomination of a remake of "The Andromeda Strain". The original Andromeda Strain is SO much better it hurts. That remake was total crap baked into a misshapen cake of layers of crap and iced with more crap served on dried crap plates.
Oh and the director (Tony Scott) is going to be responsible for the Remake of, wait for it.....
Yeah - no shit.
So yes, the dude may have cut a few memorable and very good movies, but he's responsible for crap too. And I'm so disinterested in seeing a Warriors remake.
